This is perhaps an odd answer to the question, but it IS genuine, so we'll make it work. The people that I see really Glowing on a day-to-day basis are the employees of the Peet's coffee located in San Francisco's Russ Building. You would never think it true, but nearly all of the cashiers and baristas at this location always seem genuinely happy and engaged, despite the early hour and the needy crowd. My last stop before I hit the office for the day, their good humor is infectious, and I often catch my reflection smiling in the mirrored walls of the elevator. And it's not just the caffeine!!

Twenty years ago, my very first boss, Ron, made it a point to stop at each person's desk and say Good Morning and check in every morning. The fact that he took the time to pay attention to us as people has stayed with me ever since. His enjoyment of both life and the work he did made a big impact on me.

Our organisation, which is small in size but broad in reach, definitely Glows. At first, I couldn't put my finger on why, but now I realise it is because reaching out to each other is second nature. Each person works on projects that are interlinked to everyone else, and we manage to maintain high levels of enthusiasm for our work even during times of stress.

Glow's message is one I want to pass on to my children. It's a different way of excelling, and as it's inclusive, it's 'contagious' by drawing other people in.

I was in Africa earlier this week and was bowled over by the folks I was with. They are a group called MTN which is a telecoms company and one of Africa's faster growing companies. Their mission is to connect the continent and they had all sorts of really incredible stories about how they had made a difference in their communities. Last year I had been in Tanzania with my son and we talked to a Massai warrior in the middle of the Masia lands. As we spoke he took a call from his brother who after two days walking had found pasture for the cows. Image an igniting vision which is about connecting everyone in Africa together.

Serving as a missionary in Italy, I was privileged to have as a companion a young woman whose enthusiasm and faith seemed to know no bounds. She awoke happy, went to bed happy, and was happy the livelong day as she labored tirelessly to serve and to bring "good news" to everyone who would give us their time and attention. I could hardly keep up with her, and I loved and admired her dearly.

When I worked at Oracle Corporation, I knew a woman who always walked with a bounce in her step, and was willing to help others at every turn. Not surprisingly, whenever a new task force was being set up, the other members of the team wanted her to join, because she provided a spark of energy that was infectious.
